High Interest Readers

My students need leveled books to develop a love of reading. When students have high interest books during guided reading, they are motivated to read. These books will keep students engaged during guided reading.

My Students

My students need STEM kits to support the development of their engineering skills. Many of them have dreams of becoming engineers, chemists, scientists, physicists and additional careers in the engineering fields.

My students come from very low socio-economic backgrounds, in which approximately over 80% of the students in the school receive free lunch.

I service students with special needs as well as students who are English Language Learners. Many of my students also come from single parent homes and at least a handful have experienced some kind of trauma in their lives that affect them greatly, and in turn, impact their academic performance. In addition, approximately 10% of our students are homeless.

Although their personal backgrounds put them at a disadvantage they bring their smiles into the classroom everyday. They're mathematicians, poets, authors, scientists, and much more!

My Project

These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My guided reading groups are a part of the day that students really enjoy. Every student book for guided reading is used to motivate students to become better readers. It's imperative for students to have high interest books to develop their love of reading.

With these new books, such as Amelia Bedelia Helps Out, Miss Nelson is Missing, and Young Cam Jansen, my students will have a variety of books for guided reading that are targeted at their reading level.

These high interest titles will help students become voracious readers.
