This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are capable and tenacious problem solvers. They are driven to succeed in high school and take pride in their independence, organization, and confidence.

At Bronx Letters, our students cultivate and pursue wide and varied ambitions to be anything from poets, journalists, community organizers, and musicians to politicians, doctors, and scientists.

When the Bronx Academy of Letters opened in September 2003, our founders - a dedicated team of students, parents, teachers, and community leaders - were united by a single idea: students who can express themselves clearly in writing can do better in any path they choose in life.

Through creative partnerships and a strong collaboration with our families, we continue to build a school that focuses on every child's strengths and leverages those strengths for success.

My Project

How did you discover your love of reading? Chances are, a favorite magazine subscription had something to do with it. My students, many of whom read at a low level, often struggle to engage with high school-level texts; these periodicals will help expand their vocabulary and make them more fluent readers.

These subscriptions to high-interest magazines appropriate for high school students will help me to create more meaningful opportunities for reading and writing in my classroom.

They are great stepping stones toward more sophisticated literature and non-fiction.

Your support will help ensure that my students get every opportunity to discover the joy and excitement of reading and graduate from Bronx Letters ready for college and careers.
