Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My eighth graders are energetic, unique, special children, who make each day special for me. Entering my classroom, you will see a diverse group of students who are excited to learn. Their excitement, in turn, makes me excited to teach.
For many of my students, school is where they feel most at home.
A majority of my students receive free or reduced price lunch. Many of my students are separated from their families. Some arrive at school unable to speak or understand English, yet they come to school each day to learn and improve their lives.
My Project
A well-stocked classroom library is key to increasing literacy in students. In order to be effective, there must be a variety of texts, including books at all different reading levels.
Struggling readers need to feel successful if they are to develop a love of reading.
High interest books at their independent reading level are critical in fostering a passion for reading.
I am requesting books that would be used during independent reading time, in class and, ideally, at home. Struggling readers need many options of books to read, so that they do not feel limited in their book choices. These books will help my struggling readers feel empowered, successful, and excited about reading.
