High-Interest Books for Brilliant 10th Graders

Help me give my students a modern classroom library filled with engaging graphic novels, accessible memoirs, and fast-paced contemporary fiction.

My Project

My 10th-grade English II students are creative, resilient, and full of potential. We are a Title I school, and my students face many systemic hurdles outside the classroom. Unfortunately, standard data often labels them as "behind." But I see who they truly are: capable young people who deserve the exact same high-quality resources as students in wealthier zip codes. They have powerful voices; they just need the right tools to unlock them.

Many of my students struggle with an interest in reading because they have never been given books that reflect their lives, cultures, or modern realities; a standard, outdated textbook isn't going to spark a love for learning.

My students need a modern classroom library filled with engaging graphic novels, accessible memoirs, and fast-paced contemporary fiction. These books are specifically chosen to be culturally relevant and engaging for students who have felt alienated by reading in the past. To close the resource gap, we must first capture their interest.

Your support will give my students access to stories where they can finally see themselves as the heroes, authors, and leaders. Students will use these books for independent reading time to build confidence, vocabulary, and stamina without the pressure of a test.

By funding this project, you are sending a clear message to my students: Your stories matter, and your education is worth investing in. Thank you for helping me bring equity and a love for reading into our classroom.
