Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am an inner city middle school nurse who is training underprivileged students to empower themselves and impact their own health through nutrition education and skills application.

Many of my students do not have access to health care or medications and come to school sick. Many could have better health through nutrition awareness and health education.

I need educational materials like food models, posters, food scales and calipers to simulate hands on scenarios to determine their health status and then make food choices for better health. I would also like to give them a healthy snack.

Your contribution will help students learn and use a simple solution toward optimal health. This project addresses wellness through nutrition, educating and empowering young students who have minimal health resources to take their health into their own hands by eating well. Students can be assisted to assess their own health needs and construct meals with food models to determine if they are making good choices to meet their health goals. I would also like to give them a healthy snack when they are hungry.
