Helping To Keep the Music Playing for My Students!
My students need the basic of supplies to help in their daily work with their instruments. They need reeds, cleaners and grease to keep the instruments in working order.
Our leaders live in a very rural community of 2,500 on the Tennessee/Kentucky border. No where is close. Our band program is growing very fast, but the income of the average family is low and to afford a rental or purchase is a burden many cannot do. We are very limited on school owned instruments and supplies for any instruments. I never want to turn a child away from band class due to no instrument or the supplies to play. For many a skill like this is the only way to afford higher education. They come in as 6th graders with high hopes and expectations and my goal is to feed that drive, not to ever have to place it on hold.
My Project
Each of the materials listed will assist students daily in their musical journey. Reeds, grease and cleaning supplies are a non-stop necessity for students that play instruments and frankly not always available financially or due to our very rural location.
In a world of tests and numbers-focused budgets, the arts simply get the leftovers in many cases.
My students deserve to thrive in a day that allows for musical experiences and learning. The daily needs of that are not cheap, especially when some are still trying to afford other necessities of daily life.
Nothing stops the music faster then a broken reed or a trombone slide that will not move. Each of these supplies will allow proper care for long-term success and use on the instruments.
