Help me give my students looms, yarn, burlap, ribbons, and other materials for the experience of textile arts through weaving. Each grade level (Kindergarten through 5th grade) will be creating various weaving projects.
My students love to create! They love to draw, color, collage, sew, and paint. For many of my students, Art class is the only place they get to have these experiences, and they look forward to it each day. Their faces light up as they walk through the door, wondering what we are going to create today.
Every day I am amazed to see how students can take art projects a step further, making them their own.
They are proud of their work and often say Art is their favorite class.
"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." (Pablo Picasso)
My Project
Each grade level will be introduced to textile art through weaving. Kindergarten and 1st grade will be creating and paper and ribbon weaving. 2nd and 5th grades will be doing different weaving projects with yarn on looms and finishing them with beads. 3rd grade will be weaving yarn and wire in burlap. 4th grade will create a circular weaving design decorated with beads.
Students love learning about textile arts and how fabric is created, and they love creating something textile of their own to take home.
The weaving skills they learn in the early years prepares them for a sewing project they complete at the end of 5th grade before going to middle school.
