My students need sturdy book bins to help organize their book collections. The blue connect and store book bins from Lakeshore will provide an easy to carry, protective bin for reading materials.
My first grade students are learning to love reading! They are eager and enthusiastic readers who enjoy finding a cozy spot in the classroom to get lost in their book collections. Many of my students are learning English and have come from around the world to Silicon Valley with their parents who work in the high tech industries.
Having a large collection of quality literature organized and accessible to young learners is vital to building the intrinsic motivation necessary for learning to read.
Six-year-old students are building the foundational skills on which their academic careers are built. Their learning styles and learning needs are as diverse as the languages they speak. The ways in which they navigate the learning environment and approach learning tasks challenge a traditional classroom milieu, but they are self-aware and articulate in expressing their needs. These first graders make every day interesting and fun!
My Project
These book bins will help students to keep their book collections organized and safe. We currently use cardboard magazine boxes, and they are not quite sturdy enough for first grade hands to hold on to and move between learning environments.
My students have a book collection to share with a reading partner, a collection for guided reading groups and a free choice reading collection that all need a safe place to stay organized and accessible.
Helping students learn to organize their learning materials and spaces at this young age helps to build a solid foundation for future learning. Having their book collections readily available encourages and motivates students to read, read, read!
