Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at my middle school are enthusiastic about learning, culturally diverse, and continuously demonstrate perseverance in the face of economic disadvantages. Some of our students are subjected to homelessness and poor living conditions, but still arrive with a smile on their faces.

Over 80% of the school's population receives free or reduced lunch, yet students still arrive with a smile on their face despite their circumstances.

Our school offers stability in an unstable world that allows our students to thrive. With over 2,300 students in the school, and class sizes as large as 33, it is difficult to allocate funds for so many students in need.

My Project

Having books in my classroom that are relatable and culturally relevant will foster and love of reading. Using books clubs and allowing for student choice in reading will hopefully teach my students to have a love of reading. When they realize that they can relate to a book and 'see themselves' in what they are reading gives the opportunity to have such a huge impact in the lives of my students.

By creating a space where students feel comfortable, and putting books in their hands that they can connect with will allow for a whole other world to come alive in their lives.
