My Project

I teach a self-contained special education class, which means I have varying grade levels of students who are not ready to be in a regular general education classroom full time yet. I have up to 10 students at a time and three paraprofessionals or teaching assistants. I am responsible for all of my students education including reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, art, music, and PE.

All of my students need various forms of speech assistance to communicate even the smallest things, such as needing a drink or to use the restroom.

The devices I chose are capable of downloading an Augmentative and Alternative Communication program, or AAC program. For students who have their own AAC device, we call it their "Voice". The AAC programs work by having pictures and buttons that the students can push with their fingers to speak the ideas they want to communicate to everyone. These devices would be a game-changer for my classroom, because we would not have to share devices and every child would have their own "Voice" at all times.
