Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 7th graders and are at a very crucial point in their lives when they are slowly having a better sense of who they are as people.
This is the time when they are discovering, developing and owning their identities.
They love finding and sharing books with each other. They love science experiments. They enjoy debates in social studies. They get pumped by Math Challenges! At the same time, they are figuring out how to use their voices, how to be better friends, and how to push through and find solutions to problems.
My Project
Remember the time you picked up a book you could not put down? Or that time you realized that books could take you to new adventures with endless possibilities? I want to provide opportunities for students to experience the power of stories through books. Independent Reading at our school is a precious time when students can dive into any book of their choice. Right now, we need more books to diversify our classroom library.
With a diverse library, students can have a greater chance of finding books that will get them excited about reading and help them grow as learners! Throughout the year (and until they graduate middle school), students can access these books.
