This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are exceptional, highly creative, empathetic, driven scholars from Baltimore City, Maryland. My school serves students from across Baltimore City. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. The really unique thing about my students is that they are coming to the classroom with such a depth of experiences in their lives. This creates an exceptionally enriching and emotionally empowering studio art environment. They have such incredibly profound ideas and experiences that they are extremely eager to have a voice to discuss and explore. Art has the ability to be this language, allowing my students to take risks, explore, discuss, and learn about themselves, their community, and their lives, through a safe and empowering way.
My Project
We are creating a library for our art, poetry, and philosophy books in the art studio.
The books will be a mix of art books, books on politics, poetry, social and cultural issues, Baltimore, and art making processes.
The books we are trying to purchase are high quality art monographs that detail master artists throughout history. They will serve as inspiration for young aspiring artists and painters as they research techniques and history.
Thanks for support of donors like yourself, we have been able to purchase furniture to create a welcoming and engaging environment! The books you help purchase will help create an engaging, and exciting learning environment for my art students to engage in and be inspired by on a daily basis, and is the last piece of the puzzle in setting up our class library!
Thank you for your time and continued support of our scholars!
