My Students

Students at my school at very special. We are an ethnically, culturally and linguistically diverse school, approximately 50% of my students are English Leaners, 12% of the Student Population qualifies for Special Education Services and about 70% of the students qualify for free and reduced price lunch. About 1/3 of the students at my site are bussed in from a neighboring neighborhood and we are all learning about how our differences makes us great!

We host the Moderate to Severe Special Education Program for the District and all of our students are learning the importance of kindness, compassion, justice and friendship.

My Project

Having a new classroom library that contains high interest books will benefit my students because they will be more engaged in reading. My students love reading but often times have a difficult time finding books that reflect their culture and spark their interest within the library in our classroom.

All students deserve to be reflected in the curriculum and having a new library with characters that reflect my students culturally and books that reflect their interest and aspirations will spark in them a love for reading.

The books that I have selected are titles that the students have asked for and/or about topics they care about. Please help us in getting the classroom library that my students deserve.
