Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing. My school district is urban and very high poverty, and most of my students come from broken homes, shelters, and foster care. The students in my school receive 100% free breakfast and lunch.
Several students in my class are homeless, and most of them have experienced trauma at least once in their young lives.
Despite their setbacks, my students come to school each and every day ready to learn with a smile. They come to school and give everything they have to their lessons no matter what is going on at home. They work hard, and they truly deserve the best.
My Project
Providing students with flexible seating options, and hand on activities, they will be able to complete tasks more effectively. The stools and the bean bag chairs will allow students alternative seating when they struggle to sit still. Many of my students spend their lessons standing up and flipping their desk chairs around because they are feeling restless. These flexible seating options will allow students the movement they need in a safer way. The fractions and decimal activity centers will allow for more active learning in math class to keep students actively engaged in lessons. Living in New England, we have indoor recess quite often. The board games are for the class to use during indoor recess so they can still have that break from the day to play a fun game. Lastly, the study carels will help my students remain focused in their own quiet areas when completing a test.
Due to the fact that many of my students come from broken homes, traumatic experiences, or even homelessness, they struggle immensely to focus and stay on track during lessons.Providing them with these tools will help them relieve stress and prepare them for learning.
