Ms. Bator and Mrs. Worner from Tampa FL is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Help Us Fill Our Library for Book Studies!

My students need these books in order to collaborate together; multiple copies of the same book allow opportunities for amazing discussions.

My Students

I am a teacher at a Title I Renaissance school in Tampa, Fl. My students live in an area of extreme poverty-98% of the students have free/reduced lunch. Our school is a Community School that provides many resources to the parents and students (i.e. health support, on-site food pantry).

My fourth graders can come to my classroom to feel safe, loved and valued.

Despite the many challenges our students face, they come in with smiles and ready to learn. They truly are inspiring and I want to be able to provide the best for them each and every day!

My Project

Book studies are a great way to engage students in a classroom. A lot of times, students will start to read a book and then abandon it before getting to the meaningful part of the book.

I want to encourage my students to be more engaged in their reading by giving them the opportunity to collaborate with their peers.

I will have small groups reading the same book on a schedule where they can meet after each chapter and discuss essential questions to help them dig into the deeper meaning of the book.

These book studies will benefit my students in many ways: help with their reading skills, building critical thinking skills, form a deeper attachment to the book, expose them to books they may not usually pick and help them enjoy reading! Most importantly, it will help me establish a community of readers in my classroom early in the year.
