Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am deeply passionate about Kimochis SEL curriculum and hope you will help us complete the set as we currently are working with a partial set that I, counselor, personally own. Kimochis is a set of 13" plushies with accompanying plushy feelings and a storybook for each character. These characters have three feelings that they navigate in each of their individual stories. Students learn from these characters by having the plushy present for the lesson, interacting with the plushy by helping pull out the plushy feelings from the pouch on each of the plushies themselves, and have a chance for all students to give the plushy a nice squeeze at the end of the lesson.

Kimochi is a Japanese word meaning "feeling" and the curriculum truly embraces that word.

Each character has a rich amount of information/backstory that helps the students connect with them on an even deeper level.

Here are some examples of the characters:

Bug--Learns to be brave as he is too scared to try new things like swimming and flying even though he dreams of being able to fly.

Huggtopus--Struggles with personal space and not overwhelming her friends by being impulsive/inconsiderate.

Cat--Struggles with being too bossy and playing kindly with others.

Lovey Dove--Struggles with letting go of control but comes from an overly concerned motherly perspective.

Cloud--Struggles with big feelings of anger and sadness and learns to not bottle things up then burst at his friends.

Bella Rose--Struggles to advocate for herself and have her friends hear her boundaries.

All Tk-2 grade students will learn these lessons and get to meet the Kimochi characters.
