Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a third grade teacher in East New York at P.S. 345, a shortage school in Brooklyn. About 98% of our students receive free lunch, which means that their income is below the poverty line. The majority of the students in our school are below grade level. However, they are eager to come to school and learn. They are highly motivated and want to learn despite the many difficulties that surround them. At the present time, about 40% of my students have a learning disability. They are sweet children who, despite their disability, want to learn. The state mandates that my students take an assessment test in English Language Arts. I am confident that my students would be able to pass if they had the appropriate resources. Unfortunately, my school does not have the funding to buy the books to prepare my dedicated students for these tests. One of the areas that my students are weak in is spelling and writing. My students love to write, but their spelling is far below level. I am interested in the Spelling Workbook, Connections, that incorporates editing, phonics, and vocabulary. It also comes with writing activities. My students would benefit so much from spelling books. The books are colorful and after doing much research they are the ideal spelling books for my class.
