Our Pre-Kindergarten classes are in need of funding to take a class trip to the Children's Museum of the Arts in lower Manhattan.
Due to insurance restrictions, the New York City Department of Education prohibits children in Pre-kindergarten to ride on their buses. Funding for this experience is necessary in order that our youngest learners can share this exquisite opportunity.
The museum offers an inquiry based gallery tour, where young artists will look at the work of contemporary artists. Using fun tactile material, kids will engage with the art work, discussing their ideas side by side with a Teaching Artist. In the art studio, they will create a mixed media project. This is a project based learning experience, which promotes creative problem solving skills. The children will then have an opportunity to share what they created. It is a very rewarding and positive experience and, with your support, it will be one for the children's memory books!
The visit begins with an inquiry based gallery tour, where our young artists will have an opportunity to look at the work of contemporary artists Ellen Harvey in her solo exhibition 'Ornaments and Other Refrigerator Magnets'. Using fun tactile material, kids will become engaged with the art work, discussing their ideas side by side the Teaching Artist.
The children will then head over to the art studio, to make a mixed media project based off the work they saw in the gallery.
This is a project based learning experience, which promotes creative problem solving skills. The Teaching Artist prepares the project for the students, thoughtfully connecting it to the work in the gallery.
And toward the end of the visit, the children will have a chance to share what they have created with one another!
It is a very positive and rewarding experience, one that is sure to leave a stamp on the young artists' memory.
