One especially meaningful moment occurred when a student who was feeling overwhelmed independently chose to spend time in the cozy corner with the beanbag chair and calming lamp. After a few quiet minutes using a squishy and reading an emotion-themed book, the student was able to return to class feeling calm, focused, and ready to learn. During choice time, students also collaborate using the magnetic tiles, Potato Head set, and doodle boards to build structures and create characters, strengthening communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate and contagious. Their faces lit up with curiosity and joy as they explored the fidget tools, Play-Doh, and building sets. Many students eagerly asked thoughtful questions about how and when they could use the calm-down corner and emotion books. They felt a sense of pride knowing these tools were just for them and quickly understood that the materials were designed to help them feel safe, supported, and successful throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue developing emotional awareness and self-regulation skills through small-group lessons using the emotion-themed books and activity guides. They will practice coping strategies and reflect on their feelings through guided discussions and journaling. The magnetic tiles and creative materials will be incorporated into STEM challenges and collaborative projects, while the hula hoops will be used during movement breaks to help students release energy and build coordination. Together, these resources will support students' academic growth while nurturing their social-emotional development, helping them build confidence, resilience, and a lasting love for learning.","fullyFundedDate":1758202959798,"projectUrl":"project/helping-south-bronx-students-shine-socia/9626653/","projectTitle":"Helping South Bronx Students Shine Socially & Academically","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gouldie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10191005_orig.jpg?crop=2717,2717,x682,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755635068319","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10191005"},{"teacherId":9611599,"projectId":8686907,"letterContent":"To our wonderful donors, thank you! It might seem like a small gesture, but I wanted to share just how much of a tangible impact it has on the daily lives and learning outcomes of my students.\r\n\r\nOur current schedule is quite demanding, and the students don't have their scheduled lunch break until much later in the day. By mid-morning, you can often see their energy levels begin to dip and their concentration start to flicker. As any teacher will tell you, it is incredibly difficult to teach complex concepts to a room full of hungry teenagers.\r\n\r\nHaving a healthy, reliable snack available halfway through the day has been a total game-changer. It provides that necessary \"brain fuel\" to bridge the gap between breakfast and a late lunch, allowing them to remain engaged, patient, and focused on their work. Thanks for sharing these snack with my class. The students don't have lunch until later in the day and so having a healthy snack halfway through the day helps them stay focused. I always remember when I was a growing teen how I was always needing a snack.\r\n\r\nI also use the snacks as motivation for students to do their best. Students can earn the snacks based on their accuracy when we do math games.","fullyFundedDate":1757553855637,"projectUrl":"project/math-snacks/9683496/","projectTitle":"Math Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Asjes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9611599"},{"teacherId":9611599,"projectId":9657530,"letterContent":"On behalf of my students and myself, thank you for your incredible generosity! Because of your support, our LEGO Elective has been transformed into a hub of creativity and joy.\r\n\r\nThe arrival of the new sets, especially the cartoon themes and detailed animals, has sparked a new level of engagement. I wish you could see the excitement in the room when a student completes a familiar character or builds a lifelike creature. These sets do more than just provide entertainment; they teach fine motor skills, patience, and spatial reasoning.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has given my students a space to imagine, collaborate, and build confidence + focus. When I first pulled the bins out and showed the class the organized bricks and specialty pieces, there was an immediate collective excitement. One student even asked, 'We actually get to build these? The energy in the room shifted instantly from quiet anticipation to pure, creative buzz. You could see their minds start racing with ideas. This wouldn't be possible without your generosity.\r\n\r\nThe students received the car LEGO sets and immediately began the assembly process. We are using these resources to help students improve their ability to focus on long-term tasks and follow complex, multi-step directions. During the initial builds, the kids worked on identifying specific pieces and matching them to the diagrams in the instruction manuals to ensure their models were structurally sound. The next steps have involve moving toward more intricate sets that require sustained concentration over multiple class periods.
