This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 4 and 5 years old in a Pre-k classroom. Some of them have never been in a daycare or school setting. The students are placed in our class based on an academic need and family income. The need can range in any of the following areas: social, cognitive, physical, literacy, and math. All of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. My focus is to make sure all of our students are prepared for Kindergarten.
My Project
My project will give my students an opportunity to learn the letters of the alphabet. The alphabet books will help students identify each letter and words that start with that letter. My students will also learn about a variety of fiction and nonfiction stories. The classroom books will help build student's vocabulary and boost their confidence for learning how to read. My students will practice learning sight words and identifying the words in books. We will have a Take Home Book Program, which allows students to check out 4 books weekly. Student's will complete several activities along with their families and teachers. They will practice identifying letters, identifying sight words, comprehension questions, and drawing pictures about the story.
