My students are 4 and 5 years old when they start my class. Many of our students have never been in a daycare or school setting. My students are placed in our class based on an academic need. The need can range in any of the following areas: social, cognitive, physical, literacy, and math. My focus is to make sure each student is prepared for Kindergarten. Pre-k programs are not allowed to ask parents for resources for the classroom. The Pre-K program is designed to help parents who income is typically below the poverty line. I would like to focus on 3 areas. The first area is field trips. I would like to plan field trips based on the curriculum. The second area is literacy/math. My goal is for students to be able to identify letters, letter sounds, handwriting, identify numbers, rote count, identify shapes, etc. The third area is the centers in my classroom. I would like to add additional materials in the centers.
