Help me give my students 3D printing supplies to make their ideas a reality.

My Project

Our school doesn't have a STEM lab, but it's full of little makers. Last year, students made action figures out of pipe cleaners, made clay flowers, learned to sew their own stuffies, and made paper models of furniture. Our scholars are industrious, ingenious, and resourceful. They've learned to build wonders with the materials they have. I want them to not only continue learning handicraft skills, but to apply their knowledge and creativity to new technologies.

A 3D printer will allow our students to expand their skills not just in technological literacy and project planning, but will improve their "soft skills" as they learn to work together to create.

Our goal is for them to see their project develop from idea to prototype and then iterate until they have a final product they're proud of. It's not just about the final piece though. In addition to learning the STEM skills associated with 3D printing we know they'll acquire "soft skills" in the process. Those skills will be integrated into their endeavors.

We know a maker space with 3D printers will help students to:

*Improve their communication skills by presenting their ideas/work to each other

*Develop their cooperative and time management skills as they learn to share the device and supplies

*Build resilience and a growth mindset as they learn from their mistakes

*Explore their creativity in ways they aren't able to without this technology.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
