Because of your support, our students could focus less on an empty stomach and more on learning, playing, growing, and being a kid. A warm meal can make such a difference in a child's day—it helps them feel cared for, supported, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThe meals we were able to provide also gave families peace of mind. When a child could take food home, they didn't have to worry as much about when they would eat next. Something as simple as having a meal waiting at home can bring comfort to a child and their family.\r\n\r\nYour donation did more than provide food. You helped remove a worry, fill a hungry belly, and create an environment where children could come to school ready to learn. We've been using them to explore pitch and rhythm in a hands-on way — students work in small groups, each holding a different colored boomwhacker, and together they build simple melodies and rhythmic patterns by striking them in sequence. One of my favorite moments was watching a group of students figure out, completely on their own, how to play a familiar tune just by trial and error and listening carefully to each pitch.\r\n\r\nMy students' reaction when they first saw the boomwhackers was pure excitement — lots of wide eyes, big smiles, and immediate requests to \"play the colorful ones!\" Because boomwhackers are so visual and tactile, even students who are usually hesitant to participate were eager to grab one and join in. The color-coding also made it easy for students to start connecting sound to pitch almost instantly, which is a concept that can otherwise be tricky to grasp.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I'm planning to use the boomwhackers to introduce basic music notation by having students match colors to notes on a staff, and eventually build up to playing short group compositions. Thanks to your support, my students have a fun, engaging tool that's helping them build real musical understanding while having a great time doing it.","fullyFundedDate":1696944161343,"projectUrl":"project/everyone-gets-a-boomwhacker/7721770/","projectTitle":"Everyone Gets a Boomwhacker!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Willard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5896432_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1537405544303","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/musicalwillard"},{"teacherId":5896432,"projectId":9942823,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous donation, I now have a padded gig bag for my tuba, and it's already changed how my students experience live music at school. Before this, my tuba mostly stayed in one place because it was such a hassle to move safely — now I can bring it into every classroom, out to assemblies, and even out to the buses for family events. Recently I brought it into a 3rd grade classroom for a lesson on how sound and pitch change with instrument size, and being able to actually set the tuba down in front of the kids (instead of just showing them a picture or video) made the concept click in a way it never had before.\r\n\r\nMy students were thrilled the first time they saw the gig bag show up — a few of them gasped and asked if they could touch it, and one student said it looked like \"a spaceship for the tuba.\" Kids who had only ever seen a tuba in a video were suddenly able to see it up close, ask questions about how it works, and even try to guess how much air it takes to make a sound. That kind of hands-on curiosity is exactly what we hope for in music class, and it wouldn't have been possible without a safe way to bring the instrument to them.\r\n\r\nNext, I'm planning to use the tuba as part of a lesson connecting rhythm and New Orleans brass band traditions — showing students how the tuba carries the bass line in songs like \"When the Saints Go Marching In.\" Students will learn to identify the tuba's role in a band, clap along to syncopated rhythms, and eventually create their own simple bass line patterns. Thanks to your support, I'll be able to bring the actual instrument into every room where this lesson happens, instead of asking students to imagine it.","fullyFundedDate":1765579798242,"projectUrl":"project/it-takes-a-village-to-carry-a-tuba/9942823/","projectTitle":"It Takes A Village To Carry A Tuba!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Willard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5896432_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1537405544303","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/musicalwillard"},{"teacherId":9239673,"projectId":10197127,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for the supplies!
