My Project

The purpose of this proposal is to request additional resources to support students who are performing below grade level in reading comprehension and the state reading standards. These resources will help provide targeted instruction in key literacy skills, including identifying the main idea, citing textual evidence, and improving overall comprehension and reading fluency.

Overall, students in my class are struggling to meet grade-level expectations in reading.

Assessment data and classroom observations show that many have difficulty identifying main ideas, supporting their thinking with evidence, and understanding complex texts. Without targeted intervention, these students are at risk of continued academic gaps that can affect success across content areas.

Providing structured, skill-focused reading tools will help differentiate instruction and ensure all students receive the support they need to grow as readers. These tools will be used in small-group instruction, independent practice, and during intervention blocks.

I plan to use resources during small-group instruction and targeted intervention periods, to track student progress through comprehension assessments and informal check-ins, and collaborate with the reading specialist and support staff to align strategies with school-wide literacy goals.

The expected outcomes would be to improve student ability to identify main ideas and supporting evidence, increased comprehension scores on formative and summative assessments, and greater student confidence and engagement in reading tasks.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
