Help me give my students the ability to improve their basic reading skills using a hands-on approach to building phonemic awareness.

My Project

I teach in a remote village in Alaska where my students are part of the Yupik Tribe. All of the students in my school are English Language Learners whose first language is Yugtun.

Students in my district are in a dual-language environment where they learn both their cultural language and English.

As a result, many students struggle with the mastery of either language.

Targeted and individualized interventions are needed for students with reading deficiencies including a lack of phonemic awareness and a basic understanding of phonics.

Please help them succeed!
