Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have been a middle school science teacher at my school for the last 8 years. It is always a goal of mine to make sure I am doing my part to learn new ways to engage my students in science and to make it fun! I have been teaching at least two out of the three grade levels (6th-8th) since the last three years and have been having so much fun engaging the different grade levels as well as learning abilities.
While I do my best to contribute to my classroom out of pocket, some things are becoming too expensive and I am unable to afford it.
I teach students who have a range of abilities and I would love to be able to learn more ways to engage all of my students, from the severely below grade level to the super above grade level. I feel that attending this conference will be able to provide me with the extra tools to be able to learn from other educators to bring it back to my students.
My Project
If I am funded to attend this conference, I plan to attend the following workshops:
I'll be able to learn how to engage older kids to innovate through play and collaboration.
Why Play Matters (STEM)
Creating the Perfect Classroom Environment in Middle School
In this workshop the focus will be learning how to create a student environment that is centered around student choice, classroom management and classroom culture.
Most importantly I'm very excited for the FIRESTARTER session where we can (re)ignite our passion for teaching. Because this conference is after the 2018-2019 school year, It will be a great opportunity to revisit my passion for teaching as I head into my 10th year of teaching.
The most exciting part of the trip I think will be when we go visit Sandilands Primary School to do a supply drop off. Educators helping educators is such as beautiful thing!
