My Students

I teach at a very special school in a large, urban district. What makes us special? Our students, of course! Our students love to read, and they read a lot.

These readers have read from a fabulous canon of fine literature.

They read from all genres. They have favorite authors. They discuss and write about their reading with a passion. They join me in a good cry at the end of a particularly sad read-aloud. These kids are crazy about​ books.

My Project

Do you remember your favorite series as a young reader? Was it Little House on the Prairie, Ramona, Henry Huggins, Encyclopedia Brown or my personal favorite, Nancy Drew? There is a reason books in a series stay with you over the years. You know the characters so well they become your literary friends! When you read in a series, the plot, characters and setting are familiar. You can jump right in and you know what to expect.

That is magic for any reading teacher trying to get her students to read more!

Reading books in a series is addictive and motivating! Do you remember waiting for that next book in the series? You just couldn't wait!
