Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I was a first-grade dual language teacher for 4 years and will be moving to a new school to teach third grade dual language. Unfortunately, I had to leave the majority of my classroom library behind as it belonged to my previous district. Funding a dual language library can be difficult due to the need to buy books in both languages.

How the Requested Items Will Make a Difference

1. Bilingual Books:

- Impact: Crucial for developing literacy in both languages.

- Learning: Supports vocabulary, comprehension, and cultural awareness.

2. Culturally Relevant Books:

- Impact: Helps students see themselves in stories, fostering belonging.

- Learning: Enhances self-esteem, empathy, and love of reading.

3. Interactive Storybooks:

- Impact: Engages students, improving listening and pronunciation.

- Learning: Caters to different learning styles, enhancing comprehension.

4. Leveled Readers:

- Impact: Allows for differentiated instruction, meeting students at their level.

- Learning: Ensures all students can succeed, building confidence.

Goals for This Project

- Enhance Literacy Skills: Provide a dual language library to develop strong literacy in both English and Spanish.

- Promote Cultural Awareness: Introduce diverse perspectives, fostering an inclusive environment.

- Encourage a Love of Reading: Create a captivating library that encourages lifelong reading.

- Support Academic Success: Provide high-quality, engaging, and level-appropriate reading materials.

What Makes My Students Special

My students are resilient, curious, and enthusiastic learners who bring diverse cultural knowledge to our classroom. They navigate the challenges of mastering two languages with grace and determination, enriching our learning community. Investing in a dual language library supports their academic growth, honors their cultural heritage, and encourages pride in their bilingual abilities.
