This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Children of immigrants or immigrants themselves, my students are challenged economically and academically. Many struggle to support their own families through part-time jobs or through household responsibilities. The combination of socioeconomic and academic struggles creates a great challenge for my community of students. Despite their economic hurdles, my students are avid learners who utilize whatever available resources they have to complete objectives. This year alone, they made incredible projects with the limited resources available to them.

As COVID has calmed down, our school has put on more events that would be great to feature on our school news show--but we need dedicated audio recorders to capture those events well!

We've got plays, guest speakers, special events on campus, alumni returning to give scholarships, and so much more. But unfortunately we keep finding ourselves tethered to the camera while recording audio and it would be a huge benefit to our school and school community to separate the audio from the visual. One example: we're putting on a production of the musical In The Heights and my film journalism students are producing a behind the scenes story about it, but getting good audio is very difficult. We need an audio recorder to capture the existing audio from the singers' wireless lav mics. This is just one of many examples where this Zoom audio recorder would be hugely helpful for our school.
