My students largely come from low socio-economic communities consisting of immigrants or children of immigrants. Many are self-motivated, but many others need that extra bit of external stimulus to help them become successful. I regularly try to accomplish this through high-interest texts and writing assignments that provide real-world application and rigorous, critical thinking opportunities.
