My Students

My students have learned to overcome so many obstacles when it comes to learning. They spent the last few months of 2nd grade doing online learning because of the COVID outbreak. Third grade wasn't a whole lot better. They dealt with a shortened school day, while many kids were kept home to continue doing online learning as a safety precaution. This year they are all back in school full-time, but it still doesn't feel quite the same. We still have COVID on the forefront of our brains every day. They still have a teacher and classmates wearing masks. They still have the fear of getting sick, or someone they love getting sick. Every one of my kids have missed school this year. Some as much as several weeks. Even school doesn't always feel safe any more. We have used meditation, yoga and mindfulness activities to try and relieve some of that stress in our classroom this year.

These kids are living with pressure that we have never known before!

My Project

These materials will help me make a difference in the lives of my students because they will bring joy and peacefulness to their lives each day. Everything around us feels chaotic right now, and these items will give my students an outlet for their emotions while they are at school. The resources I am requesting are things like yoga mats, calming tools, and books that show the kids how to calm their nerves and lessen their anxiety.

My number one goal has always been to teach my kiddos everything they need to know, but this year my focus has shifted a bit to helping them find some calm in the crazy world around them.

These products will help guide my students through daily meditation or yoga. They will allow me to create a calming corner in our classroom where students can go when they need to step away for a moment. My students can practice yoga that will deescalate stress. This project will allow them to have books that they can read for pure pleasure, or learn how to take deep breaths to calm down. I am requesting yoga dice and games that will help my students know how to properly stretch and calm their minds. My project includes several picture books that I can use to teach whole-class lessons on social and emotional wellness topics like kindness to ourselves, kindness to others, and social awareness, as well as some hands-on materials to bring those lessons to life.
