Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach middle school and I love how authentic my students are. They are unapologetically themselves, and I know they will have me in a fit of laughter by the end of the day. For example, a few students and their families came over the summer to show teachers their favorite spots in the community and one group stopped for slushies at a gas station before ending up at a Goodwill. Meanwhile, my group explored a neighborhood theatre and I learned that my future student wanted to be an actress when she grew up!

My 8th grade students are the most resilient, empathetic, and hard-working 13-year-olds I have ever met.

Please help me provide them with a classroom community that they are proud to be a part of!

My Project

Lately, my 8th grade students in my homeroom have been bickering more than usual and it has started to impact their learning. After observing my students and collecting data, I have realized that it is because their sense of classroom community and pride has gotten weaker as the school year has gone on. This project aims to help reinvigorate that sense of classroom pride again and bring them closer as a classroom community!

I want them to be proud of being a part of our homeroom, and a big part of that is capturing moments of joy and displaying their accomplishments for all to see!

We will take pictures of classroom competitions and team-building activities and hang them on our wall that says "Our Classroom is a Family". I hope that through these activities, we can foster a more positive classroom culture and come together as a community. Kids that feel safe and comfortable in their learning environment will be able to perform better academically.
