My Project

Each year my students come to me with a variety of abilities. It is my job to met them where they are to help them become good readers and writers.

This starts with phonemic awareness.

Phonemic awareness includes skills like identifying, matching substituting and manipulating sounds. Students need good phonemic awareness in order to become good readers.

This project would provide my class with the Heggerty phonemic awareness curriculum as well as some new ABC cards.

The Heggerty phonemic awareness curriculum would allow me to provide quality phonemic awareness instruction to my students on a daily basis. Many of my students struggle with oral language and identifying and manipulating sounds. This program would provide them with systematic, structured daily practice at a pace that is appropriate for their age. Heggerty is based in research and adheres to the guidelines of the science of reading. I know that this program would provide a sturdy foundation of skills necessary for successful reading.
