Hearing Our Own Voices

Help me give my students Hear Myself Sound Phones, handwriting paper, and other materials to help support and build foundational reading skills.

My Project

Sound Phones are a wonderful way to build all skills necessary to become skillful readers. Students are able to hear their voices. This intentional focus on hearing sounds helps the students acquire phonemic awareness, a critical element to developing necessary proficient reader phonologic processing pathways. In addition, they are wonderful for fluency practice, and during small groups, and most importantly they are engaging for students and that means everything!

Students are more likely to excel academically when they are engaged in what they are doing in the classroom!

The magnetic writing paper will be used to model how to write correctly, on the lines, in complete sentences, etc. Students will use the timer to time each other during stations (fluency and to keep each other on track). Finally, the magnetic bookshelves will be used to display books that I’ve read aloud to students, ones that they can use/read during independent reading, etc. I like to have books on display for students every month to read.
