Many of our youngest readers are still developing the foundational skills needed for reading success. Learning to read involves more than recognizing letters—it also depends on visual tracking, focus, and attention to detail.\r\n\r\nThe seek-and-find books funded through this project have quickly become some of the most loved titles in our library. Students are drawn to their colorful pages and the challenge of finding hidden pictures. As they search, they strengthen their observation skills, improve visual discrimination, and practice persistence—all essential building blocks for literacy.\r\n\r\nThese books have also inspired joyful collaboration. It's common to see students gathered around a book, working together to find hidden objects and celebrating each discovery. For many reluctant or emerging readers, these books provide an accessible, confidence-building entry point into reading. They are learning that books can be fun, engaging, and rewarding—all while developing key reading skills.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our library now offers a collection that helps every child—especially those who need extra support—build the focus and stamina needed for reading success. You've helped transform our library into a place where early readers can strengthen their skills, grow their confidence, and discover that reading truly is an adventure.","fullyFundedDate":1746570344315,"projectUrl":"project/i-spy-a-reader-building-literacy-throug/9230521/","projectTitle":"I Spy a Reader: Building Literacy Through Seek-and-Find Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4474343_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1495925406009","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4474343"},{"teacherId":4474343,"projectId":8782581,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our students now have access to an incredible selection of board books that are making a lasting impact in our library and beyond. These books are not only fostering early literacy in younger children but also bringing unexpected joy to our third-grade students, who are embracing them in ways that I had only hoped for.\r\n\r\nThrough these new books, students are practicing essential reading skills—fluency, expression, comprehension, and even storytelling. Many students eagerly select books with their younger siblings in mind, taking pride in their role as reading mentors. Others are enjoying the opportunity to check out the books for themselves, appreciating the interactive elements like pop-ups, mirrors, and puppet features that make reading feel like play.\r\n\r\nOne memorable moment happened when a particularly prolific third-grade reader checked out a few board books and, with a smile, admitted, \"If I'm being honest, I like this book myself.\" I laughed and responded, \"If I'm being honest, I've read all these books myself.\" It was a small but powerful exchange—one that reinforced the idea that reading should be joyful, no matter the format or age level. I hope she and all my students continue reading exactly what they want to.\r\n\r\nWhile I don't get to see my students reading with their younger siblings, I do see the excitement on their faces as they proudly show me which book they've chosen to take home and share. They tell me about little brothers and sisters who love animals, bright colors, or silly stories, and they carefully select books they know will bring smiles. These moments remind me that the love of reading doesn't stop at the library doors—it extends into homes, strengthening family bonds through shared stories.\r\n\r\nIn a world that often pushes children to grow up too fast, I am so pleased that our students have this opportunity to slow down, engage with books in a way that feels fun and meaningful, and simply enjoy being kids. Thank you for making this possible!","fullyFundedDate":1735247214514,"projectUrl":"project/reading-role-models-bringing-board-boo/8782581/","projectTitle":"Reading Role Models: Bringing Board Books Home to Younger Siblings","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4474343_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1495925406009","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4474343"},{"teacherId":4474343,"projectId":9006669,"letterContent":"This project has had an amazing impact on my students, getting them excited about reading and sparking their creativity in ways I had only hoped for. The new books have brought stories that are not only fun to read but also help build important skills like fluency, comprehension, and storytelling. For my English Language Learners and younger students, the colorful pictures and simple, friendly text make reading feel easier and more enjoyable. The graphic novels, in particular, have been great for teaching students about dialogue, character development, and how a story is put together in a way that feels approachable and fun.\r\n\r\nReading in my library has become an active and exciting experience. Students love browsing the shelves, sharing books with their friends, and excitedly talking about their favorite parts. The room is full of energy, with lots of laughs as students share the funny moments they've found in their books. One of the best things I've seen is how students have gone from just reading to actually creating. A third grader, inspired by the graphic novels, has already written three of his own! His creativity and enthusiasm have inspired me to create an author's club to further encourage students to create their own stories. It's been incredible to see them realize that they can create stories too—not just read them.\r\n\r\nSome books have made a bigger impact than others. The Nugget and Dog book has been a huge hit—so much so that a teacher came to tell me her class talks about it all the time! The humor, fun characters, and lively storytelling make it a favorite among the students. These books aren't just about enjoying a good read—they're also helping students become reading role models at home. After school, students can read together with their younger siblings, which helps them share their love of reading and makes the library a place for families.","fullyFundedDate":1734933488482,"projectUrl":"project/get-them-reading-early/9006669/","projectTitle":"Get them reading early!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4474343_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1495925406009","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4474343"},{"teacherId":4474343,"projectId":8782653,"letterContent":"The Lakeshore Vocabulary Development Photo Card Libraries have made such a difference in our library! They've given our ESL students a fun, visual way to build their English skills while making connections to their own languages. The colorful pictures and words help students feel more confident speaking, reading, and understanding English—especially in front of their classmates. \r\n\r\nOne of the best parts of using these cards has been the quality time spent with students. I've learned so much about them, from the pets they have at home (and the creative names they've given them!) to small details they might not usually share in class. The quieter kids, who might not speak up much in a big group, have started opening up more during these activities. \r\n\r\nThe cards have also led to great conversations about culture. Students love talking about foods, traditions, and everyday things from their home countries, and it's been amazing to see them light up when they realize others share similar experiences. \r\n\r\nThis grant has done more than just help students learn English—it's helped them feel more comfortable, connected, and excited to share their voices.","fullyFundedDate":1734099439808,"projectUrl":"project/building-bridges-expanding-vocabulary-t/8782653/","projectTitle":"Building Bridges: Expanding Vocabulary Through Multilingual Photo Cards","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4474343_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1495925406009","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4474343"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17904","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":223,"numTeachers":16,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":75,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"13.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":17904,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about C.L.
