Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a very diverse, Title I elementary school. We have students from a variety of backgrounds from low, middle and high income families. Many of these students are English learners. As kindergartners, my students use technology daily as a tool for vocabulary development, for language arts instruction, and for daily math practice. For many of these students, my classroom is their first exposure to technology.
This school is an Artful Learning magnet school which is able to use technology alongside many hands on learning tools.
My students participate in culinary arts, visual arts, dance, drama, and music. We use technology to access master works of art, and provide instruction using Glad Strategies to engage learners and develop vocabulary. Teaching teams and artist partners work together to provide depth to Common Core Curriculum.
My Project
I teach a large number of English learners, and therefore, headphones are necessary for helping my students hear when using technology. Headphones will help all students when using computers and iPads in the classroom.
We use technology in the classroom and personal headphones will eliminate distractions and allow each student to work at their own pace.
When children are able to self manage their learning through the use of headphones and technology they can accelerate their own learning.
Learning to properly care for technology is one our school's Best Practices. Children are more likely to care for headphones when they have a sense of ownership.
