My Students

Despite the many obstacles that my students face each day, they are extraordinary. They are hard workers, good thinkers, and motivated young people.

My 6th grade classes are comprised of wonderful students who deserve learning resources that are conducive to their individual learning styles.

Over 75% of my students are on free and reduced-priced lunch and many come from homes with little to no parental support. We are very culturally diverse as well. The resources in our district are limited and students often times do not get the opportunity to experience unique materials that will enhance their learning. Despite all of these obstacles, our students are eager, willing, and capable of learning. I want them to have every advantage that they can get and want to provide them with that same experiences as peers their same age in more affluent districts. They deserve to succeed and I want for each of them to know that they can be successful.

My Project

There are many ways that my students can benefit from noise canceling headphones. These headphones can be used during a test when they are not even plugged into anything. Many of my students have trouble focusing, so if they can have something to block out the noise they have a better chance of staying on track.

My students have access to many online tools that can help them get information and have the text read to them.

There are videos that can assist them in solving math problems in different ways. These headphones would give them a way to listen to the text while they read it, which can boost their comprehension. The headphones can also give the students access to music which helps with their focus and blocks out other distractions.

I have many students that cannot handle even the slightest distraction. If I can eliminate their ability to hear the distractions then they will have more chances to focus and process information. Khan Academy has so many great videos and tutorials that my students can use to gain a better understanding of topics and this would allow them access to these videos.
