Hear a Little, There a Little

Help me give my students durable headphones that are fully functional and will adjust to fit the size of their heads better.

This project expired on March 12, 2020.

My Students

Our students are brave and resilient, although they often feel alone or insecure. Several have been through hardships that most people would find unimaginable.

Our school serves the highest percent of economically disadvantaged students in our district at over 90%, and everyone at our school is eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch.

I love that my students are willing to try new and difficult things during class everyday in an attempt to tap into new skills and abilities that they didn't know they had. Most of them had never seen a real computer before stepping into my classroom. Now they are finding out that they can create magnificent things, and explore the world outside of their town with just a few clicks of a button. In my classroom students get to be artists, writers, scientists, doctors, investigators, hackers, and anything else their hearts desire.

My Project

I see all grades K-5 each week. Durable headphones are a necessity in an elementary school computer lab. Our current headphones are ill fitting, falling apart, and barely functional. It's commonplace for schools to "make do" with what they have for as long as possible. When items desperately need replacement, quality is often sacrificed for the sake of saving a few extra dollars. Unfortunately headphones are one of those expenses that have been overlooked for several years. We've scavenged to find miscellaneous replacements over time, but the students deserve better.

Your donation to this project will allow students to thrive in the Computer Lab on their assessments and in completing their own individual projects.

A tool as simple as a good pair of new headphones can help students by allowing them to spend their time being productive and focused on learning and digital creation rather than spending time focusing on the frustrating static, humming, or constant adjustment of old dilapidated equipment. My goal with this project is to allow students an opportunity to enjoy their time creating and learning new skills.
