This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My student body consists of approximately 150 students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. The racial makeup of my students is 95% African-American. A majority of my students come from homes where parents do not have a college education.
It is the objective of the school to ensure that the students are on the path to being college and career ready by the time they leave middle school.
However, this is quite difficult because many of the students are reading two to three grade levels below the national average. In order to create greater opportunities for success, we strive to create challenging and engaging lessons, which students find exciting.
My Project
My students love snacks, and I enjoy rewarding them with snacks. However, this can get expensive. Our students eat lunch at around 10:30 in the morning. This means that they must go the duration of the day without food or with junk food that they bring from home. Believe me, this is not always healthy. I also have students who come in during their free time and help clean the room. These students are also deserving of a healthy snack.
The snacks will be stored in a secure place in the school.
Students will be given snacks as rewards for positive behavior, for assisting with classroom duties, and at other times deemed appropriate.
