Healthy Kids = Wholesome Learning

My students need essential items to stay healthy! They need Clorox Disinfecting Antibacterial Wipes, Healthy Snacks, and Fluorescent Light Filters.

My Students

On a regular day, my classroom is filled with 6 classes of rambunctious, middle school students, that I often refer to as "my kids". These kiddos fill the desks (sometimes in very awkward positions) each day with all the energy and emotion you would expect from middle school aged students. Some of them are laughing while others are grumpy; some are snacking while others are hungry, but they all show up to be welcomed as my kids. My kids are learning who they are and who they want to be. They drive me crazy and keep me sane at the same time; and often they teach me more than I teach them. My students simply are, My Kids.

My Project

When kids have their basic needs met they are able to focus on what kids should focus on; learning! The materials in this project will help me maintain a clean and healthy classroom.

The health of our students must to be a priority!

Many of my students come from low income families at or below the poverty line and therefore cannot afford nutritious snacks. Furthermore many students families are in need but do not quality for free or reduced lunch programs. It is essential that students come to school and have food to eat. It is incredibly difficult for students to learn when they are hungry. This is why the Healthy Snacks in this project are critical. The impact these snacks will have on my students health and academic success is incredibly difficult to put into words.

Several students in my classroom suffer from sensory sensitivity and headaches that are worsened from fluorescent lights. Having Fluorescents Light Filters will allow our entire classroom to benefit from lower amounts of fluorescent light rays and light flickering while still being able to learn in a well light classroom. With these filters will give us the ability to perform our daily classroom activities with the lights on without negativity impacting the health of others.

The Clorox Wipes will help me minimize the spread of germs in the classroom which in turn will lower the risk of students missing school for being sick.
