Healthy Hydration and Self Care Practices

Help me give my students water bottles to build healthy hydration practices and teach them responsibility through maintaining a personal class water bottle.

My Project

I teach an amazing group of kindergarten students and part of ensuring they grow into responsible, self-regulated and self-sufficient humans is teaching them about personal needs and how to advocate for themselves.

This year the students advocated for their personal needs by requesting more frequent water breaks throughout the day.

I love that they recognized their needs and honoring this I incorporated a water break into our morning schedule. In response, the students have shown that access to water helps regulate and keeps them better focused on work tasks throughout the day.

Unfortunately our current system of a water cooler and paper cups inhibits more frequent and timely water breaks among the 25 people and presents a loss of academic learning due to the process of distribution. This will be streamlined through the use of personal classroom water bottles, allowing for more flexible water breaks throughout the day and further empowering the students to take care of their own needs.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
