Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My preschool students are all very eager and enthusiastic learners. They are very loving and kind. Most of my students are learning English as a second language and many have parents who do not speak English. All of the students in my school qualify for free or reduced-price school meals.

My students lack access to educational materials due to the high cost of living.

Often, the burden of high rents and food makes it difficult for parents to purchase other items. This puts my students at a great disadvantage in comparison to other preschool students who have access to an abundance of educational materials.

My Project

With childhood obesity on the rise, now more than ever is the right time to encourage healthy eating and promote nutritional awareness. I have chosen a variety of books and hands-on materials that will help my young scholars learn the importance of having a balanced diet, knowing that some foods are healthier than others, practice choosing healthy choices for their own meals, teaching the benefits of eating healthy and simple vegetarian recipes that the students can make themselves. In addition, I included two earth boxes where students will grow vegetables and experience the responsibility of growing and caring for their vegetables. They will learn and explore the life cycle of their plants.

I also chose books and hands-on manipulatives to support and encourage rich dialogue about feelings and self, their different feelings and why they have them, and how to deal with your feelings in all situations.

I also included some mindful mats and yoga cards and music to encourage and practice mindfulness throughout the day every day.

Dental hygiene is also essential for the healthy development of young children. The books and materials will help my young scholars learn the importance and practice of using mouthwash, dental floss, toothpaste, toothbrush, mirror, and pick to keep their teeth and gums healthy.

Together we can help our little ones develop healthy habits from the start and help them live long and prosperous healthy lives.
