My students need footballs and soccer balls to exercise their bodies before exercising their minds.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of my third grade students come from low income single parent homes. Unfortunately, many of the parents are uneducated and not able to help their children develop reading skills. On the first day of school, more than 90% of the students that entered my classroom were not reading at a third grade level. These students are hard working and goal oriented, they just need reading materials that will help them to develop the reading skills they need in order to achieve their academic goals.
My students are part of a T.E.A.M.
because we believe that Together Everyone Achieves Mastery. At the end of the year, my third graders must pass an online state test in order to go to fourth grade. These students struggle with using technology. Technology integration is crucial for academic achievement. I know that by incorporating technology into our daily lessons we will reach our goals, and become third grade readers.
My Project
There have been multiple research studies proving that physical activity helps increase mental focus in classrooms. I make a point to take brain breaks and provide recess for my students. Unfortunately, the amount of time and resources to promote physical activity is very limited.
I want to help students make the most of their time on the playground.
Not only will team games increase the chances of all students feeling included on the playground, but it will also lower the risk of students becoming bored and making poor decisions while outdoors. I am requesting jump ropes, footballs, basketballs, and soccer balls to help students stay active during recess time. This will help students get their wiggles out before sitting through classroom instruction.
