My Students

As young learners, my first-grade students need many opportunities to move around throughout the day. We achieve the kinesthetic movement necessary for young children by changing our location within the classroom during whole group instruction. My students also receive independent learning opportunities through reading and math stations and small group instruction where students' academic needs are met at their specific point of need. Technology is included in lessons whenever possible.

My first-grade students are energetic, creative, caring, and eager to learn.

I strive to create learning experiences where students receive meaningful learning opportunities as individuals, in small groups, and as a class.

Over half of the students in my school come from low-income families. One-third of the students in my class are English language learners who are working to learn the English language while also learning the curriculum being taught. Many of my students have a variety of factors, both in and out of school, that challenge their education. My goal is to help students overcome any hurdles they may face throughout the year by ensuring they feel safe and cared for and are given all of the tools necessary to grow both academically and emotionally.

My Project

The materials provided by this project will help ensure the health and safety of my students so we can continue to learn as much as possible while combating the COVID pandemic.

A new filter for our air purifier will ensure the air circulating in our classroom is as fresh and clean as possible while the kid size masks ensure students are able to keep any germs they may bring to school to themselves.

The school corporation currently provides masks to students who come to school without one or need a new one throughout the day, but they are adult sizes and do not fit the tiny faces of my first graders very well. I tie a lot of these mask straps daily, but they break often because students pull on them as they do not comfortably fit their face.

Limiting illness and the amount of time that students need to quarentine will ensure everyone is at school as much as possible.
