Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach at a Title I school in a rural community, where many of my students face daily challenges that directly impact their health and well-being. For some of my kindergarteners, school is the most stable and supportive environment they experience each day. Because of this, our classroom must be more than just a place to learn letters and numbers. It must be a place that supports their physical health, emotional regulation, and overall wellness.

This project focuses on creating a classroom environment that prioritizes cleanliness, nutrition, and emotional well-being.

The cleaning and sanitizing supplies, including disinfecting wipes, air sanitizer, whiteboard wipes, microfiber cloths, monitor wipes, and air fresheners, will allow me to maintain a healthy space where germs are minimized, and students can learn safely. In a kindergarten classroom, shared materials, small hands, and constant movement make daily sanitation essential. A clean environment reduces illness, increases attendance, and helps students feel comfortable and cared for.

The snacks included in this project: fruit snacks, whole grain crackers, popcorn, marshmallow treats, mini cookies, and other individually packaged items, will support students who arrive hungry or need an energy boost during long instructional blocks. Balanced snack options help stabilize moods, increase focus, and allow students to participate fully in literacy centers, math rotations, and small group instruction.

The calming pups will strengthen our social-emotional learning by helping students practice deep breathing and self-regulation strategies. Many young learners struggle to manage big emotions. Providing structured calming tools empowers them to reset, refocus, and return to learning successfully.

When students feel physically well, emotionally supported, and nutritionally fueled, they are more confident, engaged, and ready to grow. This project supports the whole child, body and mind.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
