At a Title I school where many young learners arrive hungry, having access to daily snacks is helping remove one of the biggest barriers to success. Our 3–5 year olds are now able to start and continue their day with the nourishment they need to feel safe, comfortable, and ready to engage.\r\n\r\nEach day, I am seeing students stay more focused during literacy, math, and hands-on activities because their basic needs are being met. Hunger is no longer a constant distraction, which allows students to participate more fully and confidently in learning. Their attention spans are improving, and they are more willing to try new tasks and stay engaged for longer periods of time.\r\n\r\nThese snacks are also supporting my students' emotional and behavioral development. With consistent nourishment, students are better able to regulate their emotions, manage frustration, and interact positively with their peers. The classroom environment has become calmer, more supportive, and more productive, allowing all students to learn in a space where they feel cared for.\r\n\r\nIn addition, snacks are being used as a positive reinforcement tool to encourage effort, participation, and growth. This helps build motivation and confidence, especially for students who need extra encouragement. Students are beginning to associate school with support, success, and positivity.\r\n\r\nOverall, these resources are helping create a classroom and school where students are not only academically engaged but also emotionally supported. When their basic needs are met, my students are more confident, more connected, and truly ready to shine each and every day. At a Title I school where many families face financial challenges, having consistent access to basic materials like binders, pencils, and erasers is removing barriers that often prevent students from feeling prepared and confident. Now, every student has the tools they need to fully participate, which is creating a more equitable and supportive learning environment.\r\n\r\nStudents are using their personal binders to organize their work, store assessments, and track their academic progress over time. This structure is helping them clearly see their growth, reflect on their learning, and set goals for improvement. As a result, students are taking greater ownership of their work and developing a stronger sense of responsibility and pride in their achievements.\r\n\r\nWith reliable access to pencils, colored pencils, and erasers, students are able to stay focused on learning without interruptions. They are completing tasks more independently, engaging more consistently, and experiencing less frustration. This has led to increased confidence, improved organization skills, and a more positive attitude toward school.\r\n\r\nThese materials are not just supplies. They are tools that are helping build independence, accountability, and motivation in young learners. My students are becoming more organized, more engaged, and more aware of their own academic journey.\r\n\r\nI am incredibly grateful to The Montgomery Family Fund and all of the generous donors who made this project possible. They are identifying peers who may need support and thoughtfully creating personalized messages that remind others they are valued and cared for.\r\n\r\nAs students write their kindness notes, they are strengthening their ability to reflect, empathize, and communicate with intention. Their writing is more purposeful because they know their words will directly impact someone else's day. This process is helping them develop stronger social-emotional skills while also building confidence in their ability to make a difference.\r\n\r\nStudents are then bringing their ideas to life by assembling kindness treat bags and personally delivering them to classrooms across the school. These moments are powerful. Students are building connections, practicing leadership, and experiencing firsthand how small acts of kindness can create joy and belonging.
