My Students

My amazing, energetic students are some of the most incredible people I know. Despite their cognitive, behavioral, and emotional disabilities, each student contributes unique strengths, talents, and insights to our classroom. Helping my students master challenging content, grow as individuals, and become positive members of society is an honor. Each student has diverse educational and emotional needs that are best met through hands-on learning experiences. Being a Title I school, most of my students come from impoverished homes and face additional challenges such as food insecurity, lack of basic supplies and lack of transportation, and reduced access to resources.

My students' emotional and behavioral disabilities, as well as intellectual disabilities, lead to additional challenges in the classroom that require creative interventions to improve focus and learning, especially during the pandemic that continues to alter their lives and routines in so many ways.

My students enthusiastically pursue any opportunity to enrich their learning through fun, hands-on activities, such as the garden, cooking, and vocational skills, but they sometimes struggle to focus during the activities. My goal is to guide my students as they aspire to reach their maximal personal, academic, and behavioral potential!

My Project

My amazing students with disabilities love coming to school. They are hard working, but often struggle with not feeling well. Families need to work, and my students hate to stay home, which sometimes means them coming to school even though they don't feel 100%. Due to their various emotional and physical impairments, many are on a wide variety of medications. These medications often upset their stomachs, and we are not allowed to give them medications. However, a cup of hot tea with honey soothes their stomach, and warms them up. We are always in need of tissues and gloves, and this is something that we run out of quickly.

Feeling healthy and well is vital to students success in school.

Due to pandemic and staff shortages, we are not always able to get out to the garden, so having pods for our Aerogarden is especially important, and tomatoes are a class favorite.
