My students need healthy bars to eat for breakfast when they can't eat a meal before the bell rings, and items for a personal hygiene kit to keep at school.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a low socio-economic urban area in Long Beach. Many of our students live in overcrowded spaces, some are even homeless or live in shelters, and are unable to go outside and move freely because of safety issues in our neighborhood.
Despite hardships that they face at home, these students come to school with a positive attitude and a smile on their faces!
They show up eager to learn and interact with their teachers and fellow students.
My students make me look forward to coming to work everyday. Their curiosity and enthusiasm are just infectious and they make me want to give the world to them!
My Project
The homeless students in our school need to have access to personal hygiene items and breakfast bars to help them concentrate on learning. Many of our students are not fed breakfast and cannot make it to school on time to eat a free breakfast that is offered. They are also not able to brush their teeth and bathe on a daily basis. When they come to school unbathed, it affects their self esteem and therefore interferes with learning.
I want my students to have a personal hygiene kit to keep at school that contains a toothbrush, toothpaste, lip balm, lotion, personal cleansing wipes, hand sanitizer and breakfast bars to help them focus and achieve their maximum potential.
