My Project

My goal for this project is twofold: to provide my students with a supportive, trauma-informed learning environment, and to support my professional development as I pursue a Master’s degree in Education with a focus on Transformative Teaching through the Breathe for Change program.

The items in this project will directly enhance my students’ learning by supporting us reaching our goal of mind-body wellness in the dance classroom.

Tools such as yoga straps, and a sound bowl with help me integrate breathwork, somatic movement, and emotional regulation into daily instruction. What I learn in my program—yoga, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and healing-centered facilitation—is immediately applied in my classroom to better serve my students.

My students are special because they deserve spaces that nurture their whole selves. I bring a modern, holistic approach to teaching that values the mind, body, emotions, and soul. Many of my students carry stress into the classroom, and dance becomes a space for release, expression, and restoration.

LED lights and classroom materials will help create a welcoming environment where students feel safe and supported as they do in-class performances. Nothing from this project will go to waste— the broom and microfiber clothes help me maintain sanitation as students dance barefoot- and these resources will continue to support my current students, future students, and my long-term work in wellness and mental health.
