I am a third grade teacher at a Title I school. Eighty-two percent of students at my school are economically disadvantaged and seventy-two percent of students are English Language learners. I teach in an inclusive classroom, welcoming students of all learning abilities. My students overcome obstacles each and every day both at home and at school, yet they find the strength to work tirelessly to make the most of their learning at school.
I strive to make my teaching as individualized as possible to reach learners where they are.
My school is in its second year of implementing Personalized Learning, which is a teaching model that makes integrated digital content, targeted instruction, data driven decisions, and student goal setting & reflection the core four of student learning.
Through the Personalized Learning initiative, my students each have an iPad to access a variety of digital programs. My students are gaining useful technology skills each and every day. Although our school supply list had headphones listed, many students couldn't afford to bring them in OR the ones they did bring in did not fit into the iPad headphone jack due to the protective casing.
It would make my student's day for them to know that they can count on having their own set of headphones for the rest of school year.
This would guarantee that each student can listen to their digital programs without distracting the learning of others.
